Who can have a scan done?

The scan is available to any woman interested in monitoring her breast health. This scan is safe and effective for women of all ages, making it a versatile tool for detecting breast abrasions. It's recognized as one of the most advanced and reliable tests currently available for breast screening.

Is the scan painful?

The scan is designed to be a comfortable experience, minimizing discomfort typically associated with medical imaging. It utilizes non-invasive technology, ensuring that the process is as pain-free as possible.

Do I need a referral to have a scan?

No referral is required to undergo a scan. Since this scan is not covered by insurance, it is accessible to anyone who chooses to opt for this screening method at their discretion.

Who reads the scan?

Each scan is analyzed by a board-certified radiologist who specializes in QT Technology Imaging. These professionals are trained and licensed in the state where the scan center is located, ensuring high standards of diagnostic accuracy.

How will my results be provided?

Your scan results, along with comments from the radiologist, will be securely emailed to you within 5 business days. Additionally, a hard copy of the results is available to be mailed to your address, ensuring you have easy access to your records.

What if my scan results are normal?

If your scan results are normal and you are considered to be at average risk, it is recommended to undergo another scan in 24 months. For those at high risk, a more frequent scanning schedule every 12 months is advised.

What if my scan results are abnormal?

If there is a finding on your scan that is abnormal, the radiologist will usually make a recommendation. If there is a lesion that is suspicious for cancer, we will generally recommend to undergo a biopsy. However, if there is a finding which is more likely to be benign, we will ask you to return for a short interval study-usually 60 days. At that point, we can recount your cells, measure a doubling time, and tell you whether or not the lesion needs to be biopsied or followed. We do this in order to avoid unnecessary biopsies, over diagnosis, and over treatment.

How do I discuss my results with my provider?

The scan provides highly precise imaging comparable to MRI scans. Discussing your results with your provider should follow the same protocols as reviewing an MRI scan, focusing on the significance and implications of the findings.

How do I prepare for my scan?

In order to prepare for your scan, you can shower either the night before or the morning of your study. We ask you to not put lotion, body oil, powder, or any product on your breast. Come with clean skin. If you have any open wounds on your breast, we will need to reschedule your appointment for when your skin is healed.

What if I am breast feeding?

If you’re breast feeding you CAN have a scan done!

Is the scan safe and effective for women with breast implants?

The scan was designed and FDA cleared for women with dense breasts. Nowhere is this more true than for women with implants. This is the best and most accurate test for women with implants and does not put them in danger of rupture because there is no compression. The study is able to document the tissue around and behind the implant with ease and the implant will not distort or interfere with the images.

Is the scan effective at detecting or following calcifications?

This scan detects calcifications, and the radiologist who interprets your study can use their location and pattern to try to determine the reason for the calcifications. Sometimes, they are in a blood vessel, sometimes due to trauma, sometimes located in tiny cysts in the breast, and other times, they are lining the ducts of the breast. It is when they are lining the ducts of the breast that we look to determine if there are precancerous changes to the tissue. This test can be used to follow these areas and ensure stability. Here is a video to learn more about calcification.

What if I have to cancel my appointment?

You can cancel your scan within 48 hours of your scheduled scan. If you don’t show up to your appointment you will be charged in full. If you’re more than 10 minutes late you will need to be rescheduled and will have to book a new scan.
